Robot toy app let a Chinese SDK collect children's precise location

The FTC took action against Apitor Technology, a China-based maker of programmable robot toys for children aged 6 to 14. The FTC said the Android companion app let JPush, a Chinese software kit built into it, collect children's precise geolocation and send it to JPush's servers, used in part for advertising, without telling parents or getting their consent. The order requires parental notice and consent, deletion of data collected unlawfully, limited retention and checks on third-party code. A $500,000 penalty was suspended because the company said it could not pay.
