An exchange account opens with a government ID and your face, and anti-money-laundering rules attach that identity to your transfers, passed along with them. Closing the account does not clear the file: the same rules keep it for at least five years after you leave.

Coinbase routes identity checks to:

• Jumio PURE VERIFIER PROCESSOR THEIR STATED RETENTION Up to 3 years or until purpose satisfied. Clients can enforce auto-delete.
• Entrust PROCESSOR
• AU10TIX PURE VERIFIER PROCESSOR THEIR STATED RETENTION No fixed period published. Retention is set by the requesting company and applicable law; its biometric policy permits keeping biometric data after verification, including for training AI.
