France's data protection authority, the CNIL, fined Extia 300,000 euros on 21 July 2026. Extia is an IT consulting firm that recruits consultants for client projects, and most of the people involved were job candidates. Of 265 requests to erase data it received in 2024, more than three quarters were not handled or were handled badly: 12 were never processed, 166 people were never told the outcome, and 27 got answers months past the one-month limit. The CNIL noted it had reminded Extia of its duties before. Extia deleted the data and wrote to the people during the procedure.
