Motherboard installed the Muslim Mingle dating app on an Android phone and saw it send the phone's precise coordinates and wifi network name to the data broker X-Mode several times. The app showed no pop-up about it and its privacy policy did not mention X-Mode. X-Mode's customers had included US defence contractors. After Motherboard's tests and request for comment, the developer, Vietnam-based Mingle, added an opt-in box saying the app collects location data. Mingle did not respond to requests for comment.
