Bible apps it now publishes were named in location files hacked from Gravy Analytics
2025-01-09Affected King James Bible - Verse+Audio (Android) and Bible - Daily Bible Verse KJV (iOS)
WIRED and 404 Media reported on 9 January 2025 that files hacked from the location data broker Gravy Analytics named apps beside phone location points, and published a list of over 12,000 app entries. The list includes "King James Bible - Verse+Audio" on Android (package kjv.bible.kingjamesbible) and "Bible - Daily Bible Verse KJV" on iOS (app 1357464684), both now published by Ozion. The reporters said much of it likely came through the advertising system, possibly without developers knowing. The iOS app's current App Store privacy label, supplied by the developer, lists location among data that "may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies".
