Researchers Serge Egelman and Joel Reardon found code from Measurement Systems S. de R.L. inside Muslim prayer apps including Al Moazin, made by Egypt-based Parfield. They said the code collected precise location, email addresses, phone numbers and nearby devices, and could read the clipboard. Google removed apps carrying it from the Play Store as of 25 March 2022 and said they could return once it was taken out. Parfield said it was told the data was collected for internet providers, financial services and energy companies.
