The Information Commissioner's Office confirmed in September 2026 that it had received complaints about "the complexity of Debenhams' unsubscribe process" and about repeated requests to leave reviews. One shopper said stopping the emails meant unticking five boxes for each of the 15 brands in Debenhams Group and 19 more in the main Debenhams section, 94 in all, and that the emails still arrived afterwards. The ICO has not said it is investigating. Debenhams said: "The ICO have not contacted us." Debenhams now trades online only, after its rescue by Boohoo in 2021 and the closure of its stores.
